Abstract:

The article analyzes theoretical approaches to understanding the problem of conflictive interaction in married couples. There is a connection between personality and strategy of behavior in problematic situations between spouses. We studied the conformity of role expectations of spouses with different strategies of behavior in family conflict, different family histories of parent family and character of matrimonial interaction in conflict. The study is based on a sample, which includes 60 respondents (30 women and 30 men aged 18–30). Utilization of a set of methods, among which are questionnaires: multiple-choice personality questionnaire by R.Cattell, «What is your style of behavior in a conflict situation?» by K. Thomas, «Role expectations and pretensions in marriage» by A. N. Volkova, «Genogram» by M. Bowen, methods of comparative and correlative analysis. These tools allowed us to find out that the biggest role in occurrence and development of marriage conflicts is played by personal characteristics of a married couple and distribution of internal family-related roles. The study reveals that conflictive marriage couples, unlike non-conflictive couples, demonstrate contradictions in attitudes and understanding of general human and internal family-related problems. The study uncovered the fact that negative personal peculiarities like low self-control, emotional instability, uneasiness, and others lead to conflictive interaction between spouses. Destructive patterns of behavior in conflictive families are inherited by the next generation. Applied aspect of the problem under study can be used in counseling practice of psychological services.
