Abstract:

The goal of the empirical study described in the article was to identify the features of the parental position in families of different types (foster and birth families). The hypothesis was confirmed that there are qualitative differences in the understanding of parental position in families of different types. The study was carried out on a sample of 40 people: 20 foster parents (adopted children have been living with them averagely for five years) and 20 parents who are married for the first time and have one child (a preschool child) using the following psychodiagnostic tools: “Analysis of family relationships” (by E. G. Eidemiller, V. V. Yustitskis), PARI (by E. S. Schaefer and R. Q. Bell in the adaptation of T. V. Neshcheret), “Parent-child interaction (I. M. Markovskaya)”, mini-composition “My child and the role of the child in the family”. It was established that foster parents tend to show increased care, attention, overprotection in upbringing and they treat the child as a special person who has changed their life. It was found that for biological parents the child acts as a successor of the genus, they are more often worried about his/her future. The revealed correlations in the group of foster parents reveal certain difficulties of upbringing in foster families. It is shown that they are associated with the excessive use of some upbringing strategies to the detriment of other components of child-parent relations. In practical terms, the results of the study can serve as a basis for developing recommendations based on the findings for specialists working with these types of families.
