The article is focused on the concept «personality image» in historical and pedagogical context. The concept includes some qualities of an advocate of the ideals of culture and goals of education. Its content and methodological significance in the system «culture-education», its place in the pedagogical terminology inventory and correlation with the concepts «goal of education», «pedagogical ideal» are under analysis in the article.

The article gives an analysis and correlation of such concepts as “identity”, “social identity”, “cultural identity”, “sociocultural identity”. Sociocultural identity is examined in the context of multicultural approach to social upbringing, according to which it means for a person to determine his or her identity to cultures and subcultures of those groups to which he or she belongs.

The theoretical analysis of a problem of realization of polycultural approach in social education is presented in article; the essence of the concept «polylevel of culture» of the personality, it making is defined; the contents and ways of the organization of pedagogical activity in the conditions of additional education; the description of variety of the subcultures forming sociocultural space of the educational organization is given.
