Social-Cognitive Approach in the Research on Social-Psychological Maturity of Personality

Abstract: 

The research provides the data of theoretical and methodological analysis of the essence of social and psychological maturity of personality from the point of view of socialization/individualization processes and the process of interpersonal interaction. Social-psychological maturity of personality has been regarded as a psychological construct appearing in the process of integration of social and individual components of maturity, such as subjectness, meaning and cognitive formation of personality. The article covers the history of development and core ideas of social-cognitive approach in psychological research. It has been shown that mature personality is, on the one hand, socially functioning personality having acquired the norms of social systems of different levels, and, on the other hand, individualized personality oriented towards achieving one's own goals. The values of social-psychological maturity get in touch with the areas of functioning of personality: meaning area, subjectivity; behavior, subjectness - realization of subjectivity in objective world; social situations as a condition for interaction (sociality). The article defines the prospects for the research on the phenomenon of social-psychological maturity from the point of view of social-cognitive approach
