Peculiarities of Representations about Unfamiliar People Depending on the Level of Interpersonal Trust

Autors:
Leonova Irina Yu., Udmurt State University
Abstract:

We present the data of theoretical and empirical analysis of the problem of trust towards strangers. We present the results of the empirical research carried out on a sample of students enrolled in the Udmurt State University in Izhevsk     (N = 302, mean age = 24, 2 years, 30% of the sample were male, and 70% - female). Application of psycho-diagnostic tools: a questionnaire «The image of another person whom I trust» (I. Ju. Leonov), the technique of the «Scale of interpersonal (social) trust» (J. B. Rotter, adapted by S. G. Dostovalov) allowed to reveal the specifics of perceiving the subjects of trust towards a stranger, depending on their level of interpersonal trust. It is established that a person with a high level of interpersonal trust is more likely to grant to a stranger such qualities as reliable, significant, understanding, sensual, sociable, active, confident, open. A personality manifesting distrust of others tends to think of a stranger as unreliable, insignificant, misunderstanding, dangerous, unsociable, passive, un-confident and closed.
