Presentation about Hope in Different Age Groups
Hope, as a psychological category, has been studied by scholars in different times, but its essence is still not disclosed. Hope is a product of a person’s relationship to the life situation. Behavior of an individual in a particular situation with respect to the object of hope depends on his/her experience and the system of values and meanings that determine his/ her future behavior. It is noted that the picture of a personality’s world changes under the influence of external changes that form its new ideas, displacing or leveling the already existing ones. The aim of the research is a comparative analysis of the semantic content of the concept of “hope”, which is put in the ordinary consciousness of representatives of different age groups. Presumably, there is a decrease in the negation of the supporting potential of hope with age. The empirical study was performed on a sample of three age groups of subjects (20–29 years old, 30–39 years old, 40–52 years old), 87 men, 134 women, the total number of respondents – 221 people, using psychodiagnostic tools: “Scale of Hope” (R. Snyder, in the adaptation of K. Muzdybaev, metric scales developed by the author) with subsequent statistical data processing (criterion ?2, correlation analysis and the Mann–Whitney U test). It was established that in the semantic content of hope, there is both emotional passive and rational active component. Differences in ideas about hope of the representatives of different ages were revealed. It was established that the denial of the supporting potential of hope is reduced with age, and dispositional hope is interconnected with the idea of hope as “the feeling that helps to achieve the set goals”.
