An Individual and a Virtual Organization: Psychological Problems and Prospects of Scientific Research

Abstract: 

The article deals with the analysis of psychological problems, which people of today face increasingly in a changing organizational world. Today, both organizations and work activities are undergoing dramatic changes that affect basic principles of the functioning and development of the organization and change the system of knowledge, skills and abilities that ensured work accomplishment in traditional organization. Essential phenomenon, which, according to the authors, more accurately expresses the basic framework of the organization of the future, is the formation and development of a virtual organization – a new organizational form based on the use of information and communication technologies. According to contemporary researchers, a virtual organization is a dynamic, open system that unites independent economic operators (entities), which allows combining the funds and core competencies of participants for more quick and effective business requests accomplishment in a shared information space. The article attempts to clarify the definition of virtual organizations and identify their features. The main types of virtual organizations are: 1. Network, multiagent, 2. Distributing, outsourcing and 3. “Virtual Office”. The article demonstrates the analysis of individual and organizational-psychological problems that arise in a virtual organizational environment. These problems can be divided into several groups: 1) management problems, 2) communication problems, 3) problems of conflict resolution, 4) problems of work motivation, 5) problems of values and organizational culture, 6) Problems of organizational adaptation and socialization of employees. According to the authors of the article, the study of an individual and a virtual organization is becoming one of the most promising areas of development of contemporary organizational psychology and psychology in general.
