Abstract:

The article presents the results of research of self understanding in the representatives of Armenian expat community in the Kuban. The study shows that personality’s self-understanding of his/her ethic and cultural identity model suggested by the author in the framework of subject and existence approach allows pointing out and analyzing peculiarities of self-understanding of ethnic and cultural identity in the expat community conditions. Empiric research was undertaken on the sample group of Armenians permanently living in Krasnodar region (n = 307, age 16 to 29); the following diagnostic tools were applied: methods by T. Singelis and T. DeCicco, modified «graph-scheme» method by B. V. Kaigorodov, semantic differential method, questionnaire by S. Schwarz and V. Bilski. The research proves that self-understanding of ethnic and cultural identity in expat community conditions is searching and finding existential values in the context of both ethnicity and culture of the Homeland and the host country. Applied aspect of the problem under study can be realized in creating adaptational programs and training courses in intercultural communication.
