Abstract:

In modern society that is characterized by rapid changes, instability, turbulence, the importance of socionomic specialists work is increasing, as their main function is to help people. The prominent representatives of this professional segment are doctors and psychologists. Such personal qualities as responsibility, discipline, and empathy are necessary for specialists to effectively carry out professional activities, provide timely and high-quality assistance to those in need. This raises the question: what qualities should be developed by doctors and psychologists to maintain their own internal well-being? The purpose of this study is to identify differences in the emotional and personal well-being of doctors and psychologists (n = 339). The hypothesis of the study is associated with the assumption that emotional and personal well-being of doctors and psychologists differs in terms of its manifestation level, stability, psychological correlates, determinants, as well as semantic content of concepts, which are included in the structure of emotional and personal well-being. The following techniques were used in the course of the study: self-evaluation of emotional and personal well-being, “Incomplete sentences”, “Socio-psychological adaptation questionnaire” by C. Rogers and R. Diamond, adapted version by A. K. Osnitsky, “Professional burnout” by K. Maslach, adapted version by N. E. Vodopianova and E. S. Starchenkova. It was revealed that the level of emotional and personal well-being of doctors is higher than that of psychologists. At the same time, psychologists have higher opportunities for sociopsychological adaptation than doctors. Representatives of both groups demonstrate manifestations of professional burnout, which indicates that both doctors and psychologists experience the negative impact of professional activity to some extent. Representatives of professional categories under study have positive associations with concepts that characterize well-being, but psychologists are more tolerant of manifestations of internal ill-being.
