Criteria of Subjective Personal Well-Being: Socio-Cultural Determinancy

Autors:
Shamionov Rail M., Saratov State University
Abstract:

We have attempted theoretical analysis of social and cultural determination of the criteria of subjective well-being on the basis of which judgments about happiness, satisfaction with life and oneself are drawn. We have singled out the basic determinants (cultural characteristics of the society where this or that identity is the most socialized, socio-economic and political state of the society that determines the urgency of needs of a particular order, the properties of the subject, the ability to build their lives in accordance with constructed goals and objectives, value and semantic orientations of a person at different stages of life, etc.). We claim that there are similarities and differences between the criteria of well-being in different cultures. It is noted that  the interpenetration of cultures and the alienation of the modern man from a particular culture leads to confusing ideas about the criteria of well-being that are broadcast from different sources. The social formation of a person is accompanied by changes and the change of the dominant institutions of socialization and gaining experience, which greatly contributes to correcting the content of ideas about well-being, and to a greater degree of individualization and developing one's own criteria and, as a result, to their greater autonomization.vv
