Abstract:

The paper presents the results of a correlation study, which purpose is to study the relationship between the harmony of value orientations and social maturity. As a hypothesis, it was suggested that the harmony of value orientations is closely related to various aspects of social maturity (social status, economic status, personal maturity). The empirical basis of the study consisted of 357 people (men and women aged 18–30 years, 178 women and 169 men). To collect empirical data, we used the methods based on a complex programme developed by A. B. Kupreichenko and A. L. Zhuravlev, and in the terms of the methods we studied self-assessment of social and economic status of the respondents, the level of their personal maturity, as well as their social activity. The social values of the respondents were investigated using the L. M. Smirnov’s method “Basic values and disvalues of the Russians”. As a result of the research, significant correlations were established between the low harmonious expression of the values of personal development and the high evaluation of one’s own opportunities for economic well-being and the development of personal maturity, as well as between the low harmony of the expression of values of social well-being and the high assessment of their social, economic status and the level of personal development. It is revealed that the achievement of social maturity by respondents is associated with the values of personal self-development more than with social well-being. It is established that there is a significant connection between the low harmony of the expression of the personal development values, the values of achieving individual benefits, relations with relevant others, and the manifestation of social activity: respondents who demonstrate low indicators of harmony in the expression of individual values show high social activity in socially significant life spheres.
